In our practical photography session, you will learn how to push your OM Camera to its limits. We will teach you how to achieve consistently fast shutter speeds of 1/32000sec, with only occasional drops to 1/10000sec, allowing for sharp images of Cape Penguins & their interaction. You will leave with photos that will not only amaze your friends but also impress your peers.

Furthermore, we will teach you how to edit & upscale your images using the latest photo editing technology, which allows for faster workflow & editing of images that previously may have been difficult to edit, such as high noise, small file size & underexposed images. All of this will be done without sacrificing your photographs’ authentic natural history value.

PENGUIN Photos - Average IS0 3200 & Shutter speed 1/32000 sec

The African penguins (also known as Cape Penguins) of Boulders Beach that forms part of the Table Mountain National Park, South Africa, are a rare combination of exposure challenges, extreme raw action & total cuteness amidst the availability of great African light.

This workshop will cover the various camera features and settings that can be used to maximize your potential to capture great landscapes & penguin photos, including:

  • Maximizing the shutter speed.
  • Shooting at high ISO.
  • Anticipating the action.
  • Focusing modes.
  • Focusing grids.
  • Understanding when and how to use pre-capture modes.
  • When to use Continuous AF, when to add Tracking and Bird Eye Detection.
  • Using Hi-res & focus tracking modes.

High-contrast landscape photography demands the same precision in exposure as penguin photography. Historically, a landscape photographer is pictured as lugging a heavy tripod around, shooting longer exposures at low ISO using small apertures. The consequences are that often only a few shots are captured in a session & many people swear off landscape photography. It doesn’t have to be that way.

The landscape seminar will cover an approach to landscape photography at low ISO, with good depth of field & without a tripod. We will cover:

  • How to set up your camera.
  • Shooting at low ISO without a tripod.
  • Visualizing the compositions within a location.
  • Chasing the light.

In the afternoon, we will focus on Cape Penguins, putting the information learned in the seminars into practice.

During the practical photography sessions, Lou will be available to assist you in getting the best out of the scene in front of you.

This will include how to:

  • Position yourself for light.
  • Learn to see patterns in behaviour.
  • Set exposure to protect the highlights.
  • Work at maximum shutter speeds to freeze action.
  • Use high shutter speed to shoot more depth of field.
  • Learn to see beyond the obvious.
  • Have lots of fun.

An essential part of digital photography is the ability to edit the images captured. With the advancements in camera technology, editing software has also improved, giving photographers the ability to enhance images they may have previously deleted & produce wonderful images.

The editing software’s capabilities have continued to evolve, making it easier to produce better images faster.

Do you have images in your files that you find difficult to edit?

  • Underexposed
  • The subject is small in the frame
  • High noise levels

The workshop will show how to deal with these issues.

During this session, Lou will use photos taken by field trip participants to demonstrate & teach how to:

  • Master a super-fast workflow in no time.
  • Use DxO PhotoLab.
  •      Latest upscaling photo software.

All this while:

  • Putting fun & enjoyment back in photographic workflow & editing.
  • Maintaining the authentic natural history value of your hard-earned photographs.
  • Speeding up your digital workflow and editing process by 90% – Guaranteed.
  • Seamless integration with Lightroom or Photoshop workflow & editing systems. (If required)

Bonus! All participants will receive evergreen training videos worth $ 250.00 (5-6 hours) for up to DxO PhotoLab 6 software focused on the Nature Photographers’ specific needs.

Hi-contrast environment. Protect the highlights.                          The potential upscaling 1 million pixels to 209 million pixels output.

In the afternoon, we will focus on Landscapes, putting the information learned in the seminars into practice.

During the practical photography sessions, Lou will be available to assist you in getting the best out of the scene in front of you.

This will include how to:

  • Being set up for success without a tripod.
  • Learn how to break a landscape scene down into multiple compositions.
  • Learn to chase light in the golden hour.
  • Shoot many more compositions in a shorter time frame.
  • Learn to see beyond the obvious.
  • Have lots of fun while shooting pro-quality landscape photographs

Lou Coetzer will be the leader for the entire workshop. Lou is an award-winning nature and wildlife photographer. He has been a photographer for over 50 years, mastering the art & technology of photography starting in the days of film, through the early digital cameras, to today’s mirrorless cameras. Lou’s hard-earned skills are put to good use when shooting with OM System cameras, particularly the OM-1. Lou has established not only a reputation amongst his peers as a master photo editor but also for his willingness to share all his own knowledge generously.

The new Olympus range of cameras has taken a technological leap over its competitors and are significantly lighter and easier to use. But beyond the equipment were the special settings created by Lou:  one-click C1, C2 and C3 settings, created to shift to changing circumstances, which enabled me to freeze pin-sharp action or capture near-perfect stills.”

“I got shots I never would have gotten, simply because I adopted Lou’s C1, C2, C3, C4 systems.

The results were exceptional.

Working with Lou has made me a far better photographer, and it will do the same for you.”

Using the incredibly fast OM-1 with the specialized system that he’s created. have completely changed how I approach and execute my photography.

You simply can’t ask for a better friend and mentor!”
