Penguin Photos - Averages ISO 3200 & Shutter speed 1/32000 sec

CAPE PENGUINS & LANDSCAPES SEMINAR - DAY 1 | AM

The African penguins (also known as Cape Penguins) of Boulders Beach that forms part of the Table Mountain National Park, South Africa, are a rare combination of exposure challenges, extreme raw action & total cuteness amidst the availability of great African light.

This workshop will cover the various camera features & settings that can be used to maximize your potential to capture great penguin & landscape photos, including:

  • Maximizing the shutter speed
  • Shooting at high ISO
  • Anticipating the action
  • Focusing modes
  • Focusing grids
  • Understanding when & how to use pre-capture modes (Selected camera brands & models)
  • When to use Continuous AF, when to add Tracking and Bird Eye Detection

High-contrast landscape photography demands the same precision in exposure as penguin photography. Historically, a landscape photographer is pictured as lugging a heavy tripod around, shooting longer exposures at low ISO using small apertures. The consequences are that often only a few shots are captured in a session & many people swear off landscape photography. It doesn’t have to be that way.

The landscape seminar will cover an approach to landscape photography at low ISO, with good depth of field & without a tripod. We will cover:

  • How to set up your camera
  • Shooting at low ISO without a tripod
  • Visualizing the compositions within a location
  • Chasing the light

CAPE PENGUIN FIELD TRIP - DAY 1 | PM

In the afternoon, we will focus on Cape Penguins, putting the information learned in the seminars into practice.

During the practical photography session, Lou will be available to assist you in getting the best out of the scene in front of you.

This will include how to:

  • Position yourself for light.
  • Learn to see patterns in behaviour.
  • Set exposure to protect the highlights.
  • Work at maximum shutter speeds to freeze action.

  • Have lots of fun.

MASTER WORKFLOW, EDITING & UPSCALING SEMINAR - DAY 2 | AM

An essential part of digital photography is the ability to edit the images captured. With the advancements in camera technology, editing software has also improved, giving photographers the ability to enhance images they may have previously deleted & produce wonderful images.

The editing software’s capabilities have continued to evolve, making it easier to produce better images faster.

Do you have images in your files that you find difficult to edit?

  • Underexposed
  • The subject is small in the frame

The workshop will show how to deal with these issues.

During this session, Lou will use photos taken by field trip participants to demonstrate & teach how to:

  • Master a super-fast workflow in no time.

All this while:
